Learn how to use ImpactStar® effectively to make a difference with the young people you work with.

ImpactStar® Training Course

YMCA have created a short online training course on how to use ImpactStar® in your programmes. All YMCA staff who wish to use ImpactStar® are welcome to complete this.

This is a self-paced course, so you can take the time you need to work through it. It is designed to be a short introduction, taking around 4–6 hours to complete.

To take this course you need to register. The following steps outline the process:

  1. Email ImpactStar® using the contact form below to register.
  2. You will then be given access to a demo site where you can practice using the tool.
  3. To complete the course, you need to work through the online modules provided. These modules also have a few activities that need to be completed.
  4. Once all modules and activities have been completed, email impactstar@ymca.org.nz to let them know. You will be awarded an ImpactStar® User Certificate and given a login to use the live tool.

    The modules

    Here is an overview of the modules in the ImpactStar® Training Course

    Module 1: Introducing ImpactStar®

    This module introduces the tool and explores the theory behind its development. By the end, you’ll know why ImpactStar® was created and how it can support the great work that you do.

    Module 2: The Steps of Change

    This module focuses on The Steps of Change, which are the backbone of the ImpactStar® tool. Find out more about what they are and how to apply them.

    Module 3: Using ImpactStar®

    This module gives you an in-depth look at each stage of the process, showing examples from our practitioner, Tamati.

    Module 4: Making ImpactStar® work

    In this module, we’ll look at some of the core concepts that help make ImpactStar® work. Then we’ll take another look at the interview cycle and what to do when you repeat it.

    Module 5: ImpactStar® FAQs

    In this final module, we’ll run over some of the common questions people have when using the system.
